terms of use.

SwapCook is a free reference for home cooks. Use what you find, cite us when you republish, and know that we're not liable for how a substitution turns out on your stove.
Use of the site
You can browse, reference, and share SwapCook pages freely. Automated scraping at volumes that materially impact site availability is not permitted — email us first if you need bulk access, since we publish the underlying dataset and can save you the trouble.
Dataset license
The SwapCook substitution dataset (ingredients, substitutions, ratios, use-case scores) is released under the Creative Commons Attribution 4.0 license. You may copy, adapt, and redistribute the data with attribution: SwapCook (https://swapcook.com) — Ingredient Substitution Database.
Written content
Page copy, article bodies, dish-specific intros, technique notes, and pitfall lists are copyright SwapCook and not part of the CC BY 4.0 dataset grant. You may quote short excerpts with attribution under standard fair-use norms.
No warranty
SwapCook is provided “as-is.” Substitutions are suggestions based on function-match analysis and general cooking knowledge — they are not guaranteed to produce a specific outcome in a specific recipe. Check allergens and dietary restrictions against primary sources. Use common sense when ratios or techniques deviate from your recipe.
Limitation of liability
To the maximum extent permitted by law, SwapCook is not liable for any damages arising from use of the site or dataset, including but not limited to failed recipes, dietary incompatibility, or adverse reactions to substitute ingredients.
Changes
If these terms change materially, we'll update the “last updated” date above. Continued use of SwapCook after changes means you accept the updated terms.
